Why are Tri-onics standards and certifications so Important?

Many companies require their suppliers to become registered (ISO 9001 for example) and because of this, registered companies find that their market opportunities have increased. In addition, a company's compliance with these standards and certifications insures that it has a sound quality management system, and that's good business.

Registered companies have had dramatic reductions in customer complaints, significant reductions in operating costs and increased demand for their products and services. Other benefits can include better working conditions, increased market share, and increase profits.

ISO 9000 registration is rapidly becoming a must for any company that does business in Europe. Many industrial companies require registration by their own suppliers. There is a growing trend toward universal acceptance of ISO 9000 as an international standard.

IPC-A-610 Training and Certification program

The IPC-A-610 Training and Certification Program offers those interested in company-wide quality assurance initiatives an IPC-sponsored program to support their commitment to continuous improvement of product quality and reliability. The program provides individuals with a portable credential that recognizes their understanding of the IPC-A-610.
The IPC-A-610, The Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies is the most widely used standard published by the IPC, with an international reputation as the source for end product acceptance criteria for consumer and high reliability printed wiring assemblies.
An industry-consensus program that includes training, certification and instructional materials based on the IPC-A-610 is available to your company. This certification will demonstrate your commitment to customer requirements and greatly assists any company dedicated to ISO-9000 or other quality assurance initiatives.

This training and certification has immediate recognition, legitimacy and value throughout the electronics industry. Over 3,000 individuals have been trained and certified as IPC-A-610 Class "A" Instructors in the first five years of the program. A comprehensive and technically accurate program, the IPC-A-610 Training and Certification provides instructors with high quality materials and detailed instructional plans for training operators.

The IPC-A-610 Training and Certification program has two tiers of instruction. Class "A" Instructor candidates are sent by their parent companies to receive intensive training on the IPC-A-610 from an IPC-approved certification center. Candidates are certified once they complete their course of study and pass the certification examination. If they feel they do not need the training course, candidates may opt to take a "challenge test" administered by one of the certification centers. Certified Class "A" Instructors are provided instructional materials for training workers in a twenty hour Worker Proficiency training program. Class "A" Instructors are considered certified for two years after the course completion date. They must then re-certify at an IPC-approved certification site.

Role and responsibilities of Class "A" Instructors

Criteria for acceptable laminate conditions

Soldered connection requirements for
plated-through holes

Surface mounting criteria for chip components,
leadless and leaded chip carriers

Swaged hardware, and heatsink requirements of mechanical assemblies

Component mounting criteria for DIPS, socket
pins, and card edge connectors

Discrete wiring assembly requirements

Solder fillet dimensional criteria for all major
SMT component groups

SMT Soldering anomolies, such as
tombstoning, dewetting, etc

Certified Designers

The IPC Designers Council certification program helps unify designers in the circuit board industry through design-focused education and industry-accepted accreditation.
Certification stands as a clear testimony of one's qualifications, knowledge, and skills. IPC Designer Certification is a powerful tool in promoting a designer's role to everyone involved in the production of printed wiring boards and assemblies.
The program assesses a designer's knowledge of how to transform a schematic into a reliable rigid PCB design, which can be easily manufactured, assembled and tested. The IPC Designers Council recognizes that the most effective designers must have a solid foundation in PCB fabrication and assembly. The certification test is based on several critical IPC documents that link design principles to the end product use of the printed wiring assembly.

ISO 9001 International Standards for Quality Management Systems

ISO 9000 is a set of standards for quality management systems that is accepted around the world. Currently more than 90 countries have adopted ISO 9000 as national standards. When you purchase a product or service from an organization that is registered to the appropriate ISO 9000 standard, you have important assurances that the quality of what you receive will be as you expect. In addition, with the year 2000 revision of the standard, quality objectives, continual improvement, and monitoring of customer satisfaction provide the customer with increased assurances that their needs and expectations will be met.

The standard intended for quality management system assessment and registration is ISO 9001. The standards apply uniformly to organizations of any size or description
